On Friday, Tyler came to spend the day in my class. Yes, the whole entire day. He had to do service for one of his classes, so he accepted my offer to volunteer in the 3rd grade.
Now, my class has been asking about him for weeks. Whenever I tell a story that involves him, they love it, and ask when he is going to come. When they got to school on friday and saw he was there, it was like Christmas morning.
All during the day, I would see students at random times turn around and take a peek at him. The kids who got to read with him were ecstatic. And you should have seen how the two little girls were giggling when they sat at the back table with him during rotations.
Recess was quite the sight. The kids begged him to go out, and he played football with the boys. Hoards of students gathered around watching him play. At second recess, the girls surrounded him, pleading for him to play tag and race them.
By the end of the day, the boys thought he was the coolest guy ever. And the girls all had crushes. One girl wrote in her journal, and I quote: "today is the best day ever because Mr. Whitezell came to visit, we had PE, and i got to eat lunch with the teacher and Mr Whitezell. He is so funny. I love my life"
I thought I was being left in the dust when all the kids begged him to come back on Monday. When he said no, one boy said "it's ok guys, we still have Mrs. Whitezell"
Awwwww. But I understand. I love him too.

jack jack
when i was 10, i cut my finger carving a pumpkin. nothing too serious, but if you know me, you know it turned into an episode that involved fainting. ever since then i have never been a fan of carving pumpkins, so tyler and i have never gotten pumpkins before. this year i got the urge, so we picked up some pumpkins from smiths.
tyler cut the top off and we cleaned it out
and then i carved the whole face all by myself! he turned out cute and nerdy. i love to see him sitting on our porch.
i am glad to be over my pumpkin carving fear. we also bought some cute little pumpkins, which we will be carving soon....so stay tuned for those.
happy birthday ty

happy birthday to me
last week i celebrated my birthday! i can't believe it's been another year. it's weird thinking about my life...i mean, i am graduated from college! when did that happen?? but it was a great day (even though i had parent teacher conferences until 8:00 at night).
the best part was my surprise party that the kids planned for me. apparently they had been planning for weeks to throw this little party. after lunch on the day of my birthday, they told me to wait outside the classroom for a minute. i was like....ok.....i figured they would go in and sit all nicely at their desks or something. when i opened, the door, they flipped on the lights and all the kids yelled out surprise! there were two moms there, who came during lunch and decorated the whole room with crepe paper and balloons and a banner, and also brought cookies. it was pretty awesome, and i was completely surprised! i seriously had no idea they were going to do it. it was very sweet of them, and i felt so special. it nearly brought tears to my eyes. they are the cutest.
they brought me this tiara and glasses and i had to wear them the rest of the day haha.
it was a great birthday!

about to cross the finish line!

we made signs to cheer them on

it was lots of fun spending time with my family, getting out of provo for a few days, and enjoying conference.

updates
just in case you were wondering:
-i just went to the dentist today: no cavities!
-i have had three substitutes so far this year, and it was definitely a LOT less stressful
-it's october and you know what that means: mcmonopoly is back! we have been like 3 times already....no big winners yet, but it will happen
-i'm a little stressed about what to be for halloween. i will not have another lame repeat like last year. any ideas?
-thank goodness fall tv is back. that lull at the end of the summer is not fun.
-second year teaching is A MILLION times better than first year teaching. i have lesson plans already made, games and activities copied and cut, ideas in my head, and confidence. then again, i still feel like i don't know anything.
-winter is coming closer and closer. i can feel is creeping as it starts getting darker and darker in the morning and darker and darker when i leave work. i am dreading this day.
the end.

Questions from an AIDS lesson
Q: so if my friend and I are running through the forest, and the truck is really far away, like a mile, and my friend falls and scrapes her knee and is bleeding and there are no parents and she needs my help, should I ask her if she has AIDS before I help her??
A: ummmm.....you should be fine
